Welcome to the Bridgeton 1878 House
|
Located in the heart of downtown Bridgeton, Indiana
the 1878 House was originally the millers home, just a few yards
away from the Bridgeton covered bridge and the millers mill. Now
this historic home is a monument to the early pioneers of this
Midwestern community. Enjoy the quaint Victorian architecture of
the house. The house is a gift shop run by Blanche Case for over 25
years, and is ready to provide its customers with unique gifts,
antiques and handcrafted merchandise.
The grounds of the 1878 House also offer the charm of the Case
1822 Log Cabin. This cabin is the original homestead cabin of the Seba
Case family who settled here in Parke County in the early 1820's.
This log cabin is a true testament to the early pioneer spirit of our
ancestors. The Case Cabin is one of, if not, the oldest log homes in
the county today. Stop by and maybe catch Blanche cooking on an
open hearth, or just take a look at the items she has to offer for sale
in her shop.
The 1878 Barn is perfect for family reunions, field trips, receptions
and meetings. This Barn is open for vendors during the Parke County
Covered Bridge Festival, as well as other events. The festival is over
50 years old and offers arts and crafts, and of course, plenty of
great things to eat. The Covered Bridge Festival starts the 2nd.
Friday of October and runs for 10 days. Plan on joining us and take a
tour of our counties 30+ covered bridges.
The 1878 House and the Case 1822 Log Cabin are open on Saturdays
and Sundays from the end of April through mid December, as well as
by appointment at any time. Call 765-548-2136 or 765-548-2760 to set
an appointment. See our events calender for the dates of our special
events.
We hope to see you here in Bridgeton, Indiana.
No visit to Bridgeton would be complete without a visit to our
covered bridge. The original bridge was destroyed by arson in 2005
and was rebuilt by the generosity of the community and lovers of this
bridge from all over the country. Thanks to all who helped make the
new bridge possible, so come on down and visit us in Bridgeton.
