Spring is here and Mountain Man Rendezvous is just around the corner. This event
is probably the 2nd largest event of the year here in Bridgeton. This years event
will be held April 26th and 27th.
Even though Saturday and Sunday are the actual days of the event, some of the re-en actors
will start arriving as early as Wednesday to set up camp. These early birds are willing to set
up early so that school children from the area can participate in field trips that we have
arraigned with some of our local schools. This is an excellent time for these 4th graders to
get to see and participate with people who strive to bring back early Indiana frontier history,
especially since they are studying Indiana history this school year.
Not only do the students get to learn about this history they get to "trade" with the re-en
actors, listen to stories and sometimes hear some of the music that was played during these
times.
The Ten O'clock line runs right through Bridgeton, I remember studying about this line when I
was taking American History, but it wasn't until I moved here and asked about it and studied
about the line that I finally understood what it was about. Maybe with this festival and field
trips some of these students will better grasp the historical nature of these historical markers
instead of just wondering what it is all about.
There will be events going on during the Rendezvous such as: Tomahawk throwing, Black
powder rifle/musket firing competition, and a canoe race (provided the creek co-operates).
There will be judging for the most authentic camp site. On Saturday night around dusk the
Mountain Men will have a fireside circle of friends, this can be most entertaining as you are
never sure of just what this group of friends might have to say about one another.
I just want to invite all of you to this event for the pure history and fun that we have.
I hope to see you at the end of April.
What an event we had this year.
New vendors and re-en actors. Lots of school kids and displays of all kind.
I have to thank all the people who set up and all of you who attended.

The Covered Bridge Festival is fast approaching. My friends keep asking "are you ready for
the festival?" and I keep answering "we'll be ready the day it ends". Ha Ha...
There is always so much to do to get ready for the festival and never enough time to do it all.
Well you just have to keep plugging away and "giter done."
The town is starting to change in appearance, tents going up, more traffic through town and
more visitors through town. It is starting to get exciting again here in Bridgeton.
I hope you all have to opportunity to join us and have a little fun here in the middle of all the
excitement.
See you in October!
The spring and summer went fast.
Art & Wine saw the addition of the Student Art Show. This event was very well attended. We
think that it only has room to grow in the future. Lots of talented students in our area.
The professional artists were glad to have the new ones come aboard.
The Woodworking and Quilt Show continues to grow. The 1878 Barn was completely filled
with quilts this year so the largest crowd in this events history had a lot to select from.
The wood workers really enjoyed the new 2 day format and look forward to another
successful
event in 2009.
This years Crafts demonstration and Milling days event went off without a hitch. All the
participants were very happy with the crowds and the selection of demonstrations and
vendors.
Fall has fell and the Bridge Fest has arrived again.
People were concerned that with a slowing economy that the crowds might not come, but
come they did.
People were out and looking and shopping and eating as usual at the festival. There were
plenty of new vendors, as well as the regular ones. Jones had his new log cabin showrooms
opened and the weather was phenomenal. We can only be thankful the good Lord for
providing such good weather this past fall. Now it is time to plan on what we can do to
improve on things for our vendors and customers for next year.
The first weekend of our Bridgeton Country Christmas was nearly perfect. The weather was
comfortable, clear and sunny and the customers came out in record numbers. It was music
to the vendors ears to have such a turn out. The customers were pleased with the selections
available to them since they had more to select from and plenty of new items to choose from.
The second weekend was snowy and icy but people still came out to shop. The weather put
people in the mood for Christmas and Santa was here to help them out.
Well it's now time to close things down for the winter and prepare for next year.
I'll try to keep up better with this page and ramble on about what is going on in Bridgeton, In.
